Soccer Weekend: Revs head to Atlanta with the potential to gain 6th in the East, root for Yankees to force NYCFC to CitiField, more

A year ago this weekend, we wondered — well, tongue-in-cheek, and all that — if the Revolution would make the MLS Cup Playoffs. At this point, there were still four games remaining in the 2018 season, and the club was, if only on paper, still mathematically alive.

We all know how that ended.

Fast forward a year. The Revs are in the postseason for the first time in four years, and will conclude the 2019 regular season Sunday when they travel to Atlanta United FC (4 p.m., NECN).

Here is a quickie look at the permutations headed into Decision Day. The Revs still have a shot at 6th in the Eastern Conference, but need some things to go their way:

Plain and simple, if the Revs can beat Atlanta, they have the opportunity to move out of the seventh spot. They also have the opportunity to not face Atlanta in the first round of the playoffs.

But we cannot look ahead to the first round, as there is still 90 minutes of football to be played this weekend that we must focus on first.
