Veteran Mike Nugent will be the Patriots’ next placekicker

Veteran Jets and Bengals kicker Mike Nugent has won the Patriots' kicking competition to replace the injured Stephen Gostkowski, according to league sources.

Nugent, 37, kicked in three games for the Raiders last season. He made all six of his field-goal attempts with a long from 52 yards. He made 4 of 5 extra points.

The Patriots are his ninth NFL team.

Nugent faced the Patriots 10 times in his career and made all 18 of his extra-point attempts. He was 9 of 11 on field goals.

At Gillette in his career, Nugent is 6 of 8 on field goals, and 10 of 10 on extra points.

To cover themselves, the Patriots are also signing Younghoe Koo to the practice squad, according to Adam Schefter. Koo, 25, kicked the first four games for the Chargers last season and was released after he went 3 of 6 on field goals. But he did make all nine extra points.
