The stakes have never been higher while we’ve been on the beat for BSJ: win and the Revolution are in the MLS Cup Playoffs. Draw or lose, and then it’s rubbing a rabbit’s foot to see what everyone else below New England does.
Sweens here at Gillette. Your starting lineups and benches are live, and your match notes are below.
We are underway at Gillette for the final time in 2019. Revs in the home Navy Blues, headed toward the Banner End. NYCFC in the powder blues, headed toward The Fort in the first half. Thanks for joining us here on BSJ.
' Both teams are feeling each other out. NYC starting out of the back, Revs trying to break the lines... and the first shot of the day is by NYCFC's Mataritta.
' Bou tries to find Penilla... Penilla is onside, but it's right to Johnson.
' A couple of NYC shots, the Revolution are resolute.
' Corner to the Revs.... and another.
' Bou tries to find Penilla... right to Johnson.
' Ball deflected away from Gil, right to Bunbury... he loses control in the box.
' ALMOST for Bunbury, as he fires across the face of goal... deflected by Johnson, corner.
' Gil tries to feed Bunbury, after Farrell reclaims the ball. Was just a little long.
' Bou passes toward the box, too long.... half a minute later, Luis Caicedo draws a free kick for the Revs. Center channel.
' Gil tried to pick out Bunbury.
' Penilla with a few fake-outs, trying to break ankles... and his shot goes wide.
' Corner to the Revs.... headed out by NYC.
' Mitrita with some wheels, he fires.... just wide.
' Penilla is down... now he's up.
' Some good ball movement by the Revs... gets Gil open... but he blazes over. NYCFC with about 55 percent of the ball so far.
' ALMOST for Penilla. He slots just wide of the near post.
' Good defending by Anibaba and Delamea.
' Another Gil shot that would have been closer to an extra point than a goal. Gostkowski's replacement?
' Delamea surrenders a corner kick on a cross.
' Header right to Turner.... no stoppage time, so that's the half.
Second Half underway. Revs headed toward The Fort for the final time in 2019. NYC to the Banner End.
' Zahibo is down, and so is Mitrita.
' Little scrum in front of Turner, Zahibo wins it... but NYC wins it back...... other way, Bou with a well-weighted pass to Bunbury, he goes down in the area, referee waves off any penalty shout.
' Free kick is sent deep, shot is deflected wide, and it will be a corner.
' Andrew Farrell and Brandon Bye, take a bow. Two stops to deny NYC..... other way, Gil serves up Bunbury, but the pass is too long.
' Corner to NYC.
' Free kick to NYC after Penilla fouls Moralez. And it's offside.
' Almost a goal for NYC as Zahibo passes back to Turner, but Turner's touch is careless and goes back toward the net... he chases it down.
' Corner to the Revs.....Bou sends it Monty's way in The Fort.
' I think it's going to take a golazo to beat NYCFC tonight. Just my thoughts.
' Brandon Bye is shown yellow for a "trip" out on the flank. More like a dive, but what do I know.
' TURNER. He smacks that ball away. That was a thumping!
' The Third Rail is chanting for VAR, but Nima Saghafi waves play on. That's a break.
' BUNBURY WITH A HEADER, Just wide.
' As it stands, the Revs are moving on as all three teams below them are losing.
' GOAL REVOLUTION! Is that the clincher?!? Teal Bunbury with the chippy on the pass from Cristian Penilla, Bou with a secondary. The Revs are through as it stands. 1-0 Revs.
