WHO: Revolution at Portland Timbers
WHEN: 10:30 p.m.
WHERE: Providence Park, Portland, Ore.
TV/RADIO: NBC Sports Boston/WBZ-FM 98.5/1260 AM Portuguese
WHAT’S UP: It’s Match Day 32, and it’s the Game In Hand Day. With most of the teams below the Revs in the league idle today, New England has the opportunity to put some ground between themselves and the rest of the field and solidify their hold on seventh — the final playoff spot — in the Eastern Conference.
Sweens here at the Farm. Dinner, consumed. Nap, taken. Coffee, in the mug. Three points, at stake. Your starting lineups are live, and your match notes are below.
We are underway from Providence Park. Revs in the Colonial kit. Periodic updates to follow.
2' Bou dispossessed after a nice counterattack started by Fagundez.
3' Valeri rightfully flagged for offside.
4' Moreira with tons of space out there, he crosses in, and Knighton claims it.
6' Big takeaway by Caldwell leads to JFC getting into the box on Bou's layoff... it's a corner to the Revs... and it's cleared.
7' Valeri with a cracking header, stopped by Mancienne's face.
8' Anibaba with a tackle from behind, looked like he got the ball, but Marrufo says no.
12' Gil takes a shoulder hard by Blanco, he goes down... Marrufo thinks it isn't a foul, but it's totally a foul.
13' Evan Allen out to check on him.
14' Bye gets spun like a pinwheel. Gil back on.
17' Corner to the Revs.... and that's broken.
21' Another corner.... play goes the other way, Ebobisse is onside, but he doesn't get enough behind it, and Knighton rightfully claims it.
22' Valeri with a shot, wide.
25' Couple of shots by the Revs there after a counter, all blocked... and Caldwell earns a free kick just outside the penalty area. 18 1/2-yard free kick.
27' ALMOST. A low drive by Bou, Clark makes the save. If it was just a little wider, that's a goal.... goes out for a corner, Gil serves it to Agudelo, and it goes over the bar. Not bad by the Revs.
28' ALMOST by JFC as he pops the ball up, spins, and fires just wide. Maybe wide by a yard.
29' JFC is fouled, Marrufo doesn't think so.
31' Corner to Portland. Cleared.
35' BRAD KNIGHTON WITH THE SAVE. Blanco with a big left footed try, and Knighton with a bigger save... other way, Bou with a go, way wide.
38' Corner to the Revs.... it's cleared partially, but Caldwell gets it back, gets it over to Gil, he feeds JFC, and Clark unches the resulting header.
39' Mancienne with a denial. Big defensive move there to prevent the Timbers access to a tap-in goal.
43' Foul on Portland as JFC goes down, free kick, dangerous area. About time.
44' Gil with the volley, wide. Tried to find the near post.
45' Four minutes minimum added on.
45+1' Sixth corner for the Revs... they go short, Diego shoots wide.
45+4' Another stop by Mancienne on a cross.... and Blanco with a Row Z Special.
45+5' That's the half.
Thoughts: Scotty Caldwell has played out of his shoes so far. Revs with 9 shots, 1 on target. 3 were blocked. So there's been some urgency. Need more on target shots.
That's now seven straight scoreless halves at home for Portland. Four scoreless halves for New England.
Second Half underway
47' Corner to the Revs. Seventh of the game. Nice pass from Gil to Bye to set it up. And Portland clears it.
48' Corner to Portland after Bye deflected Blanco's shot over the end line.... and the Timbers with a couple of chances. Partially cleared by Mancienne.
49' GOAL PORTLAND. Jeremy Ebobisse with a cracking header, drives it into the net with a solid off the ball run. He breezed past Agudelo there, and that was a nice cross by Villafana. 1-0 to Portland.
