Bedard’s Daily Briefing 08.12.19: Patriots hold final practices, Red Sox drop another

Good morning!

A few random thoughts while I wonder who the heck Chris Owings is, and why he was batting leadoff when the Red Sox are fighting for their playoff lives...

  • If you want to get an up-close look at Tom Brady and the Patriots, you better hurry down to Gillette on Monday or Tuesday because that's it for training camp.
  • While the Patriots will hold two practices in Nashville with the Titans on Wednesday and Thursday, these are the last two sessions at Gillette. NFL teams are allowed to close practices after the second exhibition game ... so there you go.
  • Probably the biggest storyline this week: Will Isaiah Wynn take another step and take live practice reps? I would expect him to get his feet wet on Monday, then they'll see how he recovers. If it's all good, he could take some reps in Nashville, maybe play a little in the game. But I think extensive work in Game 3 is the goal. Or else, it's Dan Skipper time!
  • My new 53 will be out at some point this morning. In the meantime, this will give you a good look at the tough call that will have to be made.
  • In case you missed it, I will be appearing for one hour on the Patriots Radio Network postgame radio show after every Patriots game (usually right after Bill Belichick's press conference). First game was fun with Marc Bertrand and Jim Murray. Look forward to more people calling in when it's not midnight.
  • Red Sox flopped again, and it wasn't a good day for Alex Cora.
  • Dave Dombrowski is going to have a tough time keeping his job.
  • Jayson Tatum was awesome for Team USA.
  • The Bruins will have 111 points?!!
