10-man Revolution withstand second-half barrage, escape the capital with a point: Leading, 2-1, at the half, things nearly fell apart for the Revolution. First, DC came out of the locker room with a renewed purpose after playing most of the first half on the back foot; that lasts for about 7/10ths of the second half, and while the Revs had chances, they couldn’t connect and played defense for most of the half. Then Wilfried Zahibo, playing on a yellow, was sent off in the 63rd minute, forcing the Revs to play a man down for the last half an hour. And then after Luis Caicedo conceded a free kick, Wayne Rooney gave a perfect service to Quincy Amarikwa, who had an even better finish to beat Matt Turner. That was the 16th goal the Revs have surrendered after the 75-minute mark, and it gave United a critical point. The draw for the Revs marks the eighth straight game without a loss, and for now, moves New England into the playoff positions. Whether they stay there until Wednesday depends on what happens in Montreal Saturday night, when L’Impact host eighth place Toronto FC.
