Red Sox

Final: Red Sox 4, Rangers 3

The Red Sox snapped a three-game losing streak with a ninth-inning 4-3 walk-off win over the Texas Rangers. Mookie Betts drew a bases-loaded walk to force in pinch-runner Marco Hernandez.

The Sox had led 3-2 in the eighth when a throwing error by Christian Vazquez helped lead to an unearned run for the Rangers.

Earlier, Andrew Benintendi had cracked a double and triple to score two runs. Rafael Devers singled home the first run in the bottom of the first.

Rick Porcello limited the Rangers to two runs in 6.2 innings.

IN-GAME OBSERVATIONS:

6:25   Some more sloppiness on the part of the Sox allows the Rangers to rally to tie the game. With one out, Brandon Workman plunks Shin-Soo Choo and Christian Vazquez, fielding a sac bunt attempt by Delino Deshields, throws wildly past first, putting runners at second and third. A sacrifice fly by Andrus ties the game.

5:45   A two-out double by Elvis Andrus snaps Porcello's string of 15 Texas hitters retired in a row. But he gets stranded in scoring position when Porcello gets Nomar Mazara to fly out to right.

5:36  Benintendi strikes again - an RBI-double to center, scoring Michael Chavis. Three at-bats, three extra-base hits, two RBI, seven total bases.

5:14  Porcello has figured some things out since the first. He allowed three straight hits in the first inning, leading to two runs, but since then, has retired 10 in a row.

5:06 It's rare that J.D. Martinez has much difficulty with any pitcher. But Lance Lynn is one of those guys. He came in 3-for-18 with five strikeouts against him, and today, has fanned twice -- both times swinging at pitches out of the strike zone.

5:04 Andrew Benintendi looks reinvigorated by the return to the No. 2 spot in the lineup. Until Tuesday night, he had hit in eight straight (11-for-36) and earlier in the series, he cranked a two-run homer in the first. Here -- a run-scoring triple to straightaway CF to tie the game.

4:40 Porcello gets himself a six-pitch inning, helping to offset a 22-pitch first.

4:31: That's 35 RBI in the last 37 games for Rafael Devers, who appears out of his slump. Two-run triple last night, run-scoring single today.
