Bedard’s Daily Briefing 06.06.19: Pivotal Cup Game 5 beckons with eyes on Bruins’ D, Patriots observations, Chris Sale was Chris Sale

[get_snippet] [theme-my-login show_title=0]

Good morning!

A few random thoughts while I wonder what was more impressive, Chris Sale's immaculate inning or Brock Holt's cycle ...

  • Huge Stanley Cup Game 5 tonight. The Blues might think they have momentum. The Bruins haven't lost when they've finished with at least six defensemen ... should be an all-out war on the ice. Looking forward to it.
  • Of course, all eyes will be on the morning skate and who is and isn't on the ice with the Bruins' defense. Does Zdeno Chara make an appearance? Does Matt Grzelcyk take off the red jersey?
  • One thing that seems abundantly clear: The Bruins have to dress seven defensemen. If, say, Grzelcyk does play, he's one shot away from being knocked out of the game again. The Bruins can't let themselves get shorthanded there again. It could swing the series. Do they really need 12 forwards considering some of the output there?
  • Good seeing the Patriots on the field again ... my observations, including some front seven tweaks, depth charts and punt times (Jake Bailey completely dominated Ryan Allen, who shanked a few I didn't even tabulate) are all right here.
  • Maurice Harris had a really good day, but they might be rotating that spot. It was N'Keal Harry the first day ... is today Dontrelle Inman's turn?
  • Chris Sale completely dominated the Double-A Royals last night in a complete-game shutout. Hopefully, this is the launching pad.
  • Don't talk to me about the immaculate inning. I don't care if it took him nine pitches or 10 ... he struck out the side in the eighth inning. That's impressive by itself.
