Bedard's Daily Briefing 05.23.19: Patriots back on the field, Bruins back on the ice, Chavis knocks

Good morning!

A few random thoughts while I wonder if Marcus Stroman and Alex Cora are ever going to hug it out...

• We'll get our first on-field viewing of the reigning Super Bowl champions — you know, minus the quarterback — when the Patriots take the practice field today.


• Interested in the usual things: rookies, where the new additions are lining up, but other than that, it isn't a big deal ...


• ... Except I will be watching all the new coaches carefully. This is a big x-factor this season. Yes, Bill Belichick, Josh McDaniels and Tom Brady are brilliant, but they can't do everything ... can they?


• No, I don't like Brady not being there. There are 12 total on-field practice days between the Super Bowl and training camp. He lives in Brookline. I think he can drop by a few. Will it matter for the Patriots? Probably not.


• Bruins will be on the Garden ice tonight in a cool little event that rarely happens. Hopefully no one gets hurt.


• There's something about this Michael Chavis kid (besides the fact he was suspended for 80 games last year). Just looks like he belongs.


• Shift!


• I remember B-Robb writing like in the first month of the season that Marcus Smart should be considered for the NBA All-Defensive team, and I was like, 'Slow your roll; lotta ballgame left.' Yup, he was right.
