Final: Red Sox 6, Rockies 5 (10) taken at Fenway Park (Red Sox)

Michael Chavis singled home Xander Bogaerts with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning in a 6-5 walk-off victory over the Colorado Rockies.

The Red Sox had squandered a 5-2 lead in the seventh, with starter Eduardo Rodriguez loading the bases with no out and Matt Barnes allowing all three runners to score.

The Sox had built a quick 5-0 lead in the first two innings, with all the damage coming from the top three spots in the order, which combined for six hits and five runs scored.

IN-GAME OBSERVATIONS:

9:49 Fine play by Michael Chavis, who ranged toward the bag, gloves a high hop and makes an off-balance throw to first to nab Ryan McMahon for the final out of the inning.

9:41  Red Sox had the top of the order up with first and second and one out. But Benintendi was badly overmatched against lefty Mike Dunn and Mookie Betts fouled out to the catcher against righty Carlos Esteves

9:22 Decision to bring in Matt Barnes looked like the right call, but got the wrong result. Two-run single to Trevor Story and a run-scoring groundout to second and the three-run lead that Barnes inherited is gone.

9:06 Interesting to see that Rodriguez is being left in the game, with 104 pitches thrown, runners at second and third and no out.

9:02  Sox bats have cooled since the third inning, when they scored three. Marquez has retired 11-of-12.

8:35  Better inning for ERod, who needs just 11 pitches to get through the fifth after averaging 18.5 pitches through the first four.

8:30 More tough luck for Bradley, who belts a hard liner -- right at first baseman Mark Reynolds. Exit velocity was 104.7 mph.

8:04 Once again, the homers are coming in bunches for Martinez. Homers into the Red Sox bullpen, giving him four in the last three games.

7:50 These Rockies are a free-swinging bunch. In the last 14 innings, they've struck out 30 times.

7:45 It's just not going well for Jackie Bradley Jr. He bangs a line drive off The Wall, but is thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double for the third out of the inning.

7:29 Like a perfectly placed cue shot, J.D. Martinez pokes a slow roller through the right side, scoring Benintendi from third and sending Mookie Betts to third.

7:25 That's only the second hit Andrew Benintendi has managed while leading off a game for the Red Sox this season. Prior to that at-bat, he had been 1-for-31 in the first inning this season.
