WHEN: Saturday, Apr. 20, 7:30 p.m.
WHERE: Gillette Stadium
TV/RADIO: NBC Sports Boston/WBZ-FM 98.5/1260 AM (Portuguese)/MSG (New York)
WHAT’S UP: It’s a Bottom-of-the-East six-pointer for Match Day 8, and the Revolution need every last one of them as they host Original Ten outfit New York Red Bulls. New York isn’t doing too much better than New England, sitting ninth place. Of course, the Revs are in the basement. Can they get out of it?
Sweens here at soggy Gillette Stadium. Tonight's starting lineups and benches are posted below, with your match notes below them.
Revs in the light blue parley Earth Day kit, headed toward the Banner End to start. Red Bulls in the darker unis, headed to The Fort, and we're underway. Thanks for joining us. New York gets us started.
5' Free kick for the Red Bulls into a dangerous area, and Mancienne clears it... it leads to a corner, and the ball is deflected goalward... Cropper corrals it.
6' Whoa. Nice movement as Gil feeds Farrell, he crosses, but Bunbury is a step too slow for it.
8' Castillo gets forward -- way forward -- and he tries to get it to Agudelo, but the Red Bulls clear it for a corner... ball comes to Caldwell, he left foots it over.
15' First 15 minutes done, and it feels like there is no flow in this one. So far. About equal portions in both halves of the pitch... free kick for New York after a Caicedo foul, blazed right at Cropper, he saves it.
17' Nice one-two between Fagundez and Bunbury, Bunbury feeds Gil, he goes for the far post and missed by a yard. Best Revs effort so far.
20' Brief stoppage for an injury as Casseras goes off for a brief spell.
21' This referee has not called one foul in favor of the Revs with Bunbury on the ball. He was just taken down, ref said no. Casseras back on for New York.
24' Diego mis-hits a header after Agudelo is fouled, he has advantage, Agudelo crosses to DF14, and he missed it.
25' Offside on Bunbury.
27' Corner to the Revs after some nice build-up down the right side.
29' Bunbury gets it into the box with his back to goal, and he can't get a shot off.
30' A vicious counter by the Revs as Gil feeds Fagundez, who then feeds Castillo, but the Red Bulls clear it.
33' Cropper with a big stop after the Red Bulls wheel around the edge and fire away.
34' Gil charges in, lays off to Farrell... who blasts high and wide of the Upper 90 at the near post.
39' Biiiig save, Cody Cropper. He denies Rzatkowski off the throw-in, and Rzatkowski left-foots it, Cropper parries it aside... corner sees Long side-foot it wide.
44' That was... poor? Free kick for New York that went wide of where the kicker wanted it... and it's a throw-in for New England.
45' Castillo has a go... wide.
45' One minute minimum of stoppages.
HALF
First half thoughts:
Revs aren't playing too bad so far: Have 59 percent of the ball to New York's 41 percent... but the big stat that matters: 3 on-target shots for New York to 0 for the Revs. NY with 5 shots overall, Revs with 4.
Second Half underway. Revs get us started, heading toward The Fort.
47' New York with a shot over the bar.
51' Cropper comes out to play the ball, and Wright-Phillips has it... BWP spins and shoots, Mancienne blocks it.... BWP is cautioned afterward.
52' Agudelo is now shown a yellow for a rash challenge.
55' Agudelo with some nice moves to break free... he tries to find Fagundez, but a defender gets a foot on it... corner sees Fagundez find Bunbury, who nods it low. Robles grabs it. A shot on-target.... wow. They do happen here.
57' Agudelo finds Fagundez again, but he takes two touches and fires it into the Lighthouse Tunnel.
59' Cropper clears out Mancienne on that.... don't know what he was thinking, and he came way out of his box for that..... corner to the Revs at the other end...
60' Nice track back by Luis Caicedo to slow the Red Bulls.... JFC on for Bunbury, first Revs sub.
62' Fagundez with a drive... into The Fort. Was about 27 yards away.
63' Fernandez on for Bezecourt for New York.
64' Nice stop by Andrew Farrell to slow an NY counter.... then L Caicedo tries to clear; it goes off a New York player to BWP, but the Revs clear it. Phew.
66' BWP feeds Fernandez, who shoots... saved by Cropper.
69' Etienne replaced by Casseras for New York.
71' Penilla coming on for Fagundez.
72' Corner to New York... cleared.
73' Caldwell tries to find the overlapping Castillo... to no avail.
73' GOAL REVOLUTION, and it's Cristian Penilla! He takes a ball from JFC on the counter, and he slots home to give New England a 1-0 lead. Give Gil an assist, too.
Penilla slots it away! #NEvRBNY https://t.co/vKPLzwao4A
