Bedard’s Daily Briefing 03.01.19: Bruins score huge win over NHL’s best, Celtics try again tonight

Good afternoon!

A few random thoughts while I wonder about this double shot of winter coming this weekend...

  • No qualifiers: last night's 4-1 thrashing of the Lightning by the Bruins was extremely impressive.
  • Normally the Wet Blanket of Reason over here would snuff out the optimism by pointing out that, a) Tampa was playing its third game in four nights, including a back-to-back; and, b) the Lightning weren't playing with starting goalie Andri Vasilevskiy, but I'm not going to do that.
  • Why? Because the Bruins so thoroughly dominated the game. I mean, they owned the entire ice and barely let the Tampa offense breathe. That's impressive no matter how it happens.
  • Now, is this a precursor for the postseason? I wouldn't go that far. The teams will be on equal rest and the starting goalies will play every game, but I'd say it's an indicator that the Bruins could be more competitive than last year's 4-1 series loss — at the least.
  • Hey, Fishbowls for everybody!
  • Interesting chat that Sean McAdam had with Max Scherzer.
  • Bill Belichick is still teaching Sean McVay lessons.
  • Celtics will try again to get their first win since the All-Star Break against the Wizards. This group has turned into a nightly reality show.
  • Look for the Patriots to do some tweaking with the offense for next season.
