Bedard's Daily Briefing 01.15.19: Celtics in real trouble, Bruins can't finish Habs, Chargers look back at Pats

Good morning!

A few random thoughts while I wonder how fast food tastes on White House place settings...

• The Celtics allowed a 22-2 run to fall behind by 26 points in the third quarter to the Nets last night, and they dropped their third-straight game.


• This is getting pretty embarrassing for this group, and the focus on Brad Stevens will only intensify if Danny Ainge — who seems very protective over this roster — doesn't make a trade to shake things up.


• Ainge reminds me of parents who can't or refuse to see the issues with their own children, and Stevens is the teacher/coach who is left to clean up the mess.


• The focus will also continue with Kyrie Irving and his leadership. He tried to be more positive with the team after the game, but it might be too little, too late for some of his younger teammates. I swear it looked like Jaylen Brown almost rolled his eyes when asked about Irving's message. Things don't appear to be getting better. Some of the young guys might be tuning him out. Ainge might need to bring in some unifying presence if Al Horford isn't going to do it.


• Bruins fell quickly in overtime to the Habs.


• It's ludicrous the Bruins are now done with Montreal and Toronto for the season. What a joke.


• The Bruins are really bad 5v5 ... time for Don Sweeney to step up to the mic.


• Quite a fight between Kevan Miller vs. Nick Deslauriers

• Good story from Price on Julian Edelman, who was a boss on Sunday, through the eyes of his college coach.


• Listened to Anthony Lynn's Monday press conference. He wasn't asked one question about his team's defensive approach. Wow.


• Lynn said the Chargers "did not play their best football." They watched the film on the five-hour plane ride back. "We did not execute as well as I would have liked. They (the Patriots) did a heckuva a job executing. They attacked us pretty good, as you saw. They were the better team yesterday, no doubt."


• Watch the coaches film of Chiefs-Colts waiting for the Patriots-Chargers to be posted. I'll have some thoughts on the Chiefs up shortly. The Patriots film was all messed up and out of sequence. That's going to delay things.
