Stephon Gilmore on All-Pro berth: 'Lot of hard work and dedication, week in and week out'

FOXBOROUGH — Another week, another personal honor for Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

The veteran landed a first-team All-Pro honor late last week, the first of his career. The 6-foot-1, 202-pounder, who also landed a Pro Bowl honor earlier this year, reflected on what it meant to him to finish land a coveted All-Pro berth.


“It’s a great feeling,” he told BostonSportsJournal.com on Monday afternoon. “You work hard, but you never know how stuff goes sometimes. It’s good when other people notice. That’s what you work for. It’s not the only thing you work for, but it’s a good honor.

“It’s a lot of hard work and dedication, week in and week out. You have to work hard to get noticed or to win games. There are no shortcuts around here. It’s a great honor. I’m happy for it, but I’m really looking forward to Sunday against the Chargers.”

The 28-year-old finished the regular-season with 20 passes defensed (second-best in the NFL) and a pair of interceptions while going head-to-head against some of the NFL's best pass-catchers on a weekly basis. Ultimately, his performance was enough to make him the first Patriots’ defensive player to land first-team All-Pro honors since Darrelle Revis did it n 2014.
