- The Winter Classic might be celebrated as a return to hockey’s roots, but the two points up for grabs in Tuesday’s matchup are plenty valuable for both the Bruins and Blackhawks. Currently, Boston is outside of the playoff picture — with the Islanders currently slotted into the second Wild Card spot. Meanwhile, the Blackhawks are looking to build some momentum after a brutal 15-20-6 start to the season.
- While the Blackhawks are 0-3 in the Winter Classic, the cellar-dwelling club have actually won five of their past six games. Boston is 1-1 in its last two Winter Classic appearances.
- After a heavy rain on Monday, Tuesday’s conditions should be perfect for an outdoor game, with temperatures hovering around the low 30s and a chance of some light snow flurries close to puck drop.
- Brad Marchand will make his first Winter Classic appearance today, rejoining the lineup after missing Saturday’s game due to an upper-body injury. He will skate on Boston’s top line with Patrice Bergeron and David Pastrnak, while Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson will get the latest look on the wing next to David Krejci and Jake DeBrusk.
