EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Stephon Gilmore knew what was coming.

Of course, this has been the case for much of the season — the Patriots’ cornerback seems to be a step ahead of whoever is matched up against him. But just before the end of the first half, he had that familiar feeling once again. The Jets were sitting on a first and 10 at the New England 41-yard line. Down 10-7 and looking to get closer, New York quarterback Luke McCown dropped back and went deep for Jets receiver Robbie Anderson, who was flying down the far sideline looking for the end zone.

The ball was underthrown — really, Gilmore had a better angle on the play than Anderson did. (That was thanks in large part to some pressure from Trey Flowers, whose hit very likely impacted McCown’s delivery.) Gilmore was able to high-point the ball, taking it away from Anderson and forcing the first takeaway of the day.
