FOXBOROUGH — The Texans were on the move.
After a couple of stalled drives at the start of the game that resulted in field goals and not touchdowns — and a 14-6 deficit — Houston started to build some offensive momentum early in the second quarter of Sunday's game. Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson had a second and 3 at the Patriots’ 42-yard line. He dropped back and flung the ball deep for the end zone and receiver Vyncint Smith.
“They ran that route a couple of times,” said cornerback Stephon Gilmore. “They usually run a post.”
Smith was in double coverage, with Gilmore and Eric Rowe in pursuit. The ball was badly underthrown, and while it looked like Rowe initially had a bead on it, Gilmore was the guy who came up with it.
