Alex Guerrero was in the home locker room at Gillette Stadium this week, and was reportedly on the team plane with the rest of the Patriots as they flew to Carolina for Friday’s preseason game against the Panthers.
Brady’s body coach has reportedly been a point of contention between Bill Belichick and the quarterback. Last season, Belichick restricted some of Guerrero’s access to the locker room, as well as travel on the team charter to away games and sideline access. However, he has been spotted multiple times around the facility since then.
It is worth noting that because the Patriots are taking an 88-man roster — plus staff and coaches — to Friday night's game at Carolina, they could be using both of the team planes. That would naturally free up additional space for friends and family, and that could account for Guerrero's inclusion, which was reported by NFL Network.
But in many ways, this move could be seen as something of an olive branch for the quarterback, especially when you figure this news comes days after his contract was re-worked. Guerrero's status was likely going to be tied, at least informally, to any contract tweak by Brady.
Allowing Guerrero to travel with the team would seem to be a good compromise on Belichick's part since Guerrero's travel was absorbed by Brady last year, and it also probably wasn't all that convenient for Brady's needs.
If Guerrero starts to appear on the sidelines or at practices, then that would definitely be a change.
