BSJ Daily Briefing 08.06.18: Sox sweep away Yankees, and NY tabloids act accordingly

Good morning! And what a good morning it is for all of New England...

A few random thoughts while I contemplate how much criticism Aaron Boone will be getting for, say, eternity...

• There's not a whole lot to say after the kind of weekend the Red Sox had at the expense of their archrivals. Yankees had a chance to make this a real horse race down the stretch. Instead, the division is virtually over now that the Sox lead by 9.5 games.


• That kind of demolition by the Highlanders — and a colossal collapse on Sunday night — can only mean one thing ... let's check out the tabloid covers! #atraditionbetterthananyother

And the reigning champion, despite deep cuts...

• Just phenomenal.


• Yeah, I know, there's some history involved that says it's not over. I get it. And normally I'm with you. But I look at Sox history as pre-2004, and post-2004. You can wait for the other shoe to drop if you want, but to me, that's ancient history.


• By the way, what was up with Aroldis Chapman's hat pouring sweat like he was in a monsoon? I know, J.D. Martinez with the bases loaded is that scary.


• How long until Boone gets fired? The old man would have done it by now.


• Alex Cora can virtually do no wrong. Perfect guy for this club at the perfect time.


• There seems to just be something about this team.


• Great story from Sean McAdam on the special relationship between Nathan Eovaldi and Sandy Leon.


• The Patriots are off for the second-straight day. On the heels of giving the team the final week of OTAs off, the slogan for the 2018 Patriots is #DaysOffDaysOffDaysOff


• Bill Belichick is really making Tom Brady pay for not attending the offseason workouts ... Brady didn't throw in team drills the final two days of practice.


• Yup, it's officially time to start worrying about Sony Michel.


• Loving what Danny Shelton is bringing in the pass rush.


• Trent Brown has been phenomenal so far.


• By the way, if Kyrie Irving walks after this season, the Celtics can't just use his cap space on someone else.


• Nice of Randy Moss to recognize the Patriots, the Krafts, Bill Belichick and Dante Scarnecchia. You could make the argument that if Moss didn't have his run with the Pats, he may not have been getting inducted into the Hall (at least on the first ballot).
