Practice recap: Patriots head into Gillette for in-stadium practice on Day 5 of camp taken at Gillette Stadium (Patriots)

(Adam Richins/Boston Sports Journal)

FOXBOROUGH -- The Patriots are set to hold their annual in-stadium practice (for season-ticket holders and Foxborough residents) Monday night at Gillette. It will probably be a (relatively) low-intensity practice, but one thing we'll be keeping an eye on are the special teamers -- newcomers like Cordarrelle Patterson and Corey Bojorquez haven't had a chance to work inside Gillette. Something to watch for. But it's a nice night here at the stadium -- a good evening to get some work in.

8:26 p.m.: Two-minute drills are starting to wrap up, so we're headed downstairs for some conversations on the field. More to come shortly.

8:12 p.m.: Etling for Lucien on an excellent deep ball.

8:11 p.m.: Let me preface this by saying it's really early. But if the season started today, the Patriots would have some variation of these guys as starters on first-down defense: Devin McCourty and Patrick Chung at safety. If they want to go three safeties and two corners, they'd have Duron Harmon in the mix. If they went three corners and two safeties, it'd be Gilmore, Rowe and (right now) Duke Dawson at corner. At linebacker, it would be Dont'a Hightower and either Kyle Van Noy or Elandon Roberts. And up front, it'd be Wise, Flowers, Shelton and Guy. Obviously, that's a base defense with all sorts of variables, but that's where it stands roughly a week into camp.

8:04 p.m.: Ryan Lewis had a nice pass breakup/INT on a deep ball for Patterson. And another on a deep ball intended for Edelman,

7:59 p.m.: Punting competition. Jordan Richards working as the punt protector. The battle between Corey Bojorquez and Ryan Allen is joined. See below for the hang times from Greg.

One note: Bojorquez did not hold on either of the "running clock/mayday" field goals.

7:47 p.m.: Barring something unforeseen happening, Trent Brown is going to be the starting left tackle for this team. Not a huge surprise, but with every passing day, he's doing more and more to become entrenched in the job.

7:42 p.m.: As Belichick said in his pre-practice press conference, Monday will be a good day to test the special teamers inside the stadium. Lots of kickoff work. Seeing Cordarrelle Patterson on kickoffs, I'm reminded of what Matthew Slater said last week when I asked him about Patterson. "I’ve been watching him since he came in the league and I think we’ve talked at length about what he has from a physical standpoint that has enabled him to have success in this league (like) his size, his speed," he said. "You know he runs through a lot of arm tackles. I can attest to that, personally. When you got a guy that big and explosive and he’s got the right mindset, he wants to be aggressive, it’s definitely a good thing. It’s not just up to him though, it’s up to us, the guys blocking for him, to make sure that we give him the opportunity to utilize his skill set."

7:39 p.m.: Jeremy Hill doesn't have any kick return experience at the NFL level, but has spent some time with the kick return unit tonight. Lots of guys back there, including Braxton Berrios.

7:33 p.m.: Eric Rowe continuing to get starts at No. 2 corner opposite Stephon Gilmore. He flashed positively on occasion on multiple occasions this evening. (For those of you in the Q&A this afternoon, there was a lot of Rowe/McCourty talk. For what it's worth, there have been situations Monday night where the two of them have been in the lineup together with Gilmore.)

7:23 p.m.: Jeremy Hill has done well with the opportunities he's been getting, and is working with some of the starters this evening.

7:03 p.m.: Eddie Pleasant and Deatrich Wise getting some first-team reps in what is basically a glorified walkthrough.

6:48 p.m.: So we don't see the following players: Malcolm Mitchell, Mike Gillislee, Jordan Matthews, Jonathan Jones, Cyrus Jones, Nate Ebner, Keion Crossen, Matthew Slater, and Shane Wimann. Kenny Britt was here, but he's not practicing.

6:44 p.m.: No major changes when it comes to the starting lineups on both sides of the ball, at least here in the early going. Mike Gillislee also isn't out here, which leaves the Patriots with Rex Burkhead and Brandon Bolden getting first team reps.

6:37 p.m.: We'll have some takeaways from the coach here shortly. Right now, it doesn't look like there are any surprises when it comes to attendance, at least when it's compared to Sunday. Guys are in shorts, shirts and helmets. Don't see Jordan Matthews, who wasn't around at the end of practice on Sunday.

5:44 p.m.: Bill Belichick is set to address the media in the workroom at 6 p.m. We'll hear from the coach, and then head upstairs to the press box.
