Welcome to first and 10, a roundup of all the (mostly) Patriots-related news you need to start your Thursday. Grab your coffee and let’s get to it.

Summer started at 6:07 a.m. on Thursday! How are you celebrating?

By watching some video of the Patriots from 30 40 years ago, of course. Here's some of the 1978 playoff game between the New England and the Oilers. There's a mix of the TV call and some old NFL Films footage here that make it kind of a fun look back, regardless of the way it all turned out for the Patriots. (I forgot how bad a shape Dan Pastorini was coming into this game.)

Now, on with the links...

1. Miguel has a look at what the extensions for Joe Cardona and James Develin mean for both players, as well as the Patriots own salary cap situation.

2. I talked with John Rooke of Patriots' Playbook.  Lucky enough to have been a guest (and host) on that show for many years. John is a good guy, and we always have some good football conversation.

3. Eric Decker believes he'd be a good fit for the Patriots. I have to admit -- this was a little intriguing. This went beyond the usual lobbying that a free agent might do when it comes to trying to angle for a job in New England. He's got the Josh McDaniels connection, and the Patriots might need an intermediate target if Malcolm Mitchell's knee is going to continue to keep him on the sidelines. Let's put it to a vote.

4. Tom Brady is a finalist for the ESPY for Best Male Athlete of the Year. He's up against Jose Altuve, Alex Ovechkin and James Harden for the honor. You think he might show up for the ceremony? Yeah, me neither.

5. Gil Brandt of NFL.com predicts one future first-time Pro Bowler for each AFC team. When it comes to the Patriots, he's going with Trey Flowers.

Extra Point: From LeGarrette Blount's Instagram. Am I the only one amused by the idea that the quarterback is just sitting there, scrolling through Instagram like the rest of us when he gets bored?
