BSJ Daily Briefing: Brady talks, Sox offense picks it up, Phil messed up, and other Open thoughts

Good morning!

A few random thoughts while I prepare my ice bath for today's extreme heat...

• After taking a slight breather for Father's Day weekend, we're back at it hard today. I'll be writing my thoughts/interpretations from the Tom Brady/Oprah interview. Chris Price will have a roster projection by Noon, I'm working on a roster-related piece I'm hoping to have done today, plus Bruins and Celtics draft coverage and catching up on the Red Sox. So stay tuned.


• Speaking of the Oprah interview ... WTH.

• Watching the Red Sox on Saturday night, I couldn't help but think of this...

• Good to see Rafael Devers and Jackie Bradley helping to get the offense back on the right path on Sunday, but they need to start stacking success and not just flashing it. Or else they both could be out of jobs by the trade deadline.


• When Xander Bogaerts is dialed in like he is now, he makes the game look ridiculously easy.


• Head from a member who wasn't thrilled we were "covering" the World Cup. Look, I get that but a) it's not like we're diverting resources — the Revs are off for two weeks and Sean Sweeney would be consuming the games anyway, and b) it's the biggest sporting event in the world that even casual fans tune in for. Plus, it all happens during the work day and many don't have a chance to see the games, so we like to help them catch up.


• Is anyone excited for the NHL and NBA drafts this week? Anyone?


• Don't get Mrs. BSJ, a former teaching and playing pro, started on the whole Phil Mickelson thing from this weekend. She took great offense and I agree with her. Any intentional act to circumvent the Rules of Golf should result in disqualification. Phil's words after Saturday's round only made it worse. If he said it was in the heat of the moment, or he lost head, then fine. But he said it was premeditated. That's just wrong. Have a hard time seeing Jack Nicklaus or Arnold Palmer doing that.


• Golf, where you police yourself, is different than any other sport in this regard. This isn't football.


• Another thing I disagreed with: the Fox telecast basically making it sound like Dustin Johnson was just unlucky this weekend, and that there wasn't anything he could do about losing. Uh, sure there was. He was 5-under to start the weekend and finished 3-over. Play better. And how about this: get a clue on your irons or putts. Johnson was brutal this weekend, and that's what happened.


• Congrats to Team Parizale for finishing tied for low amateur. Matt, the Brockton firefighter, got a lot of help from father Vic, who was on the bag and is retired from the same fire station.


• Just a reminder: I need your help/input on a new offseason project.
