Red Sox

Final: Red Sox 6, Orioles 2 – Shutout slips away

David Price turned in his best start of the season, and for the second straight night, the Sox got homers from J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts for a 6-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.

The loss was the 13th in a row on the road for the Orioles.

Price limited the O's to just five hits -- three of them singles -- and took a shutout into the ninth before allowing a leadoff double to Andrew Susac and a two-out, two-run homer to Manny Machado spoiled the bid. He didn't issue a walk and struck out eight to even his record at 4-4.

Martinez homered for the second straight night and eighth time in the last 15 games in the first, staking Price to a quick 2-0 lead. In the fifth, Bogaerts cleared the left field wall for his second three-run homer in as many nights. Andrew Benintendi's sacrifice fly produced the other Red Sox run.

All six of the Boston runs came off Baltimore starter Kevin Gausman.

WHO: Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles
WHEN: 7:10 p.m.
WHERE: Fenway Park
WHAT'S UP: The Orioles return to Fenway for their second series of the year. The Sox swept them last month before the final game of the scheduled four-game series, on Patriots Day, was rained out, resulting in this game. The Orioles have the third-worst record in the American League, but have been somewhat more competitive of late, splitting their last 10 games. The O's run differential of -59, however, indicates how bad things have been, and it's worth noting that they are 0-12 in their last dozen road games. They haven't won away from Baltimore since April 8.
STARTING PITCHERS: LHP David Price (3-4, 4.89) vs. RHP Kevin Gausman (3-2, 3.18).
