Rob Gronkowski was apparently “chastised” in front of the team last summer for being a client of Alex Guerrero, according to a Sunday report from The Boston Herald.

Tom E. Curran of NBC Sports Boston added to that on Monday, saying Gronkowski was called out for “being ineffective” in August after what was perceived by the coaching staff as a poor stretch of work. The back-and-forth with the coach apparently continued to grate on the tight end last season, and was a source of friction between the two.

It’s worth mentioning that some of this could also appear to corroborate our story here at BSJ from last summer where Gronkowski started camp on a high note, but appeared to outwardly dial back the enthusiasm later that summer — Greg used the phrase “muted,” one that made sense for anyone who witnessed Gronkowski over the course of the summer. Given the timeline of events, it would certainly be easy to connect the dots between Gronkowski’s on-field change in temperament and a potential public dressing-down from the coach.
