IN-GAME OBSERVATIONS:
- Brian Johnson, matched against the Yankees regular lineup, has looked extremely sharp in the first two innings, retiring six of the first seven hitters, including four by strikeout.
- Ivan DeJesus Jr. led off the third inning with a homer off Masahiro Tanaka, with the ball landing in the first row of the first field bleachers. It's the first homer of the spring for DeJesus, who has hit the ball well.
- Sam Travis has gotten some attention for his power this spring (team high five homers), but he also has shown some improvement at first, digging out a low throw from Rafael Devers to record the final out in the third.
- Johnson was lifted with two outs in the fifth. He allowed two hits, one walk and fanned five in 4.2 scoreless innings.
- LHP Robby Scott hasn't had a great spring as he adjusts to a new arm slot following off-seas0n surgery to remove some bone chips in his left elbow. But Scott got a big out today, relieving Johnson with two runners on and two out, getting lefty Brett Gardner on an inning-ending groundout.
- Travis struck again at the plate, smacking his sixth homer of the spring.
