BSJ Daily Briefing 02.27.18: BSJ Analytics, Revs?, Gronk and B's

Good morning!

A few random thoughts while I figure out how to celebrate National Pancake Day...

• In case you missed it on Friday, we debuted a new feature at BSJ that I want to get rolling on and expand: BSJ Analytics. The first installment was on why the Bruins should target Ryan McDonagh at the trade deadline (and from Joe McDonald's reporting, we now know they tried). Ideally, we'd have a weekly column on each of the four sports. • Also, I know the Revolution are starting their season this weekend, but we're still going over our options on them. If you're interested in covering them for us, send me an email with your resume, clips and ideas for coverage to greg@bostonsportsjournal.com.


• Also, in case you missed it this weekend, we had another installment of our New England Roots series on Saints offensive coordinator (and Medway native) Pete Carmichael.


• I wouldn't freak out over every Gronk tweet if I were you. He might apply some pressure to the team from time to time, but I think this will go down to the wire at the start of training camp. Yes, you should take this seriously, but this is about money first and foremost.


• And, no, a trade would not shock me. Once you make Bill Belichick start contemplating life without you, at some point he usually warms to the idea of being without you, especially if you have value elsewhere.


• And if that's the case, everyone will, of course, freak out and wonder if Belichick has lost it. And then the Patriots will be fine and win 12 or 13 games like they do every season. Win, dance, repeat.


• It's far from do or die, but the Bruins could really use a win tonight in their first home game in nearly two weeks. After suffering back-to-back losses to end the longest road trip of the season, including one to the awful Sabres, it's time for the Bruins to back to taking care of business. They're in a position to capture the attention of a lot of people.
