Clete Blakeman, an official with some history when it comes to the Patriots, will work as the referee for Sunday’s AFC title game.
Blakeman was the referee in a 2013 New England-Carolina game that was marred controversial finish where it appeared tight end Rob Gronkowski was interfered with on on a fourth-quarter pass play that would have given the Patriots a late shot at a comeback win. Blakeman and his crew picked up the flag, leading to this confrontation between Tom Brady and Blakeman on the way off the field after the contest.
Sunday will mark the first time since 2015 he will work a New England game.
Overall, the Patriots have a 2-4 mark with Blakeman as a referee.
