The Patriots announced a number of roster moves on Wednesday afternoon, ahead of Sunday's showdown with the Steelers. As expected, the team signed wide receiver Kenny Britt and also re-signed defensive lineman Ricky Jean Francois to contracts.
In order to make room for both players on the 53-man roster, the Patriots released linebacker Jonathan Freeny and wide receiver Bernard Reedy.
The Patriots also placed offensive tackle Marcus Cannon on injured reserve.
Three thoughts on the moves that were made on Wednesday (in addition to our thoughts on the addition of Britt, which we detailed here on Tuesday...)
--Jean Francois returns as insurance for Alan Branch. If Branch’s health does turn out to be a long-term issue, they have a guy on the roster who at least has a passing familiarity with the defense. He’s not going to be named an All-Pro, but Jean Francois is a smart and savvy veteran who can give them some quality snaps as needed.
