BSJ Daily Briefing 12.12.17: A rare December loss for the Pats

David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

Not a pretty night for New England sports on Monday evening. The Patriots and Celtics lost to sub .500 teams on the same night for the first time since November 1991 per Elias Sports. While the Patriots game wasn't pretty by any means, most of you were probably lucky to miss out on the Celtics' first true stinker of the season, where a 24-2 second quarter run essentially ended the game early for the Kyrie-less visitors.

From the Patriots' standpoint, I'm a bit shocked at the fact that the No. 3 seed is suddenly in play now if things go south in Pittsburgh. The Jaguars are 9-4 (I had to double check that too) and have a pretty easy schedule to close things out before a showdown with the Titans during Week 17. If they win out and the Patriots lose one game over the next three, that means no bye week for the Pats. Just some added motivation for the team for Sunday's huge showdown in Pittsburgh.

And away we go...
