Tom Brady back at practice; Dion Lewis (illness) a DNP as Pats prep for Miami taken at BSJ Headquarters (Patriots)

Quarterback Tom Brady returned to practice on Friday, but running back Dion Lewis was added to the injury report with what the team listed as an illness.

Lewis was one of four who did not practice on Friday. He was part of a group that included defensive lineman Deatrich Wise (foot), linebacker Kyle Van Noy (calf) and offensive lineman Marcus Cannon (ankle).

Per a league source, there’s optimism that Wise will be able to go on Monday night against the Dolphins. However, the recent acquisition of linebacker Jonathan Freeny could indicate that Van Noy could be on the shelf for a bit longer — the linebacker, who has been a steady presence in the middle all year, saw a significant dip in playtime last weekend against the Bills, and the same thing could happen against Miami. As for Cannon, he’s been in the shelf for an extended stretch with an ankle issue — if he can't go against the Dolphins, expect another heavy workload for LaAdrian Waddle, provided he’s healthy enough to give it a go.

Brady’s appearance at practice was not unexpected — he said on Thursday he was good to go for Friday’s session — but it was his first of the week.
