Bill Belichick, Patriots awaiting word on Rob Gronkowski's fate

In a conference call with reporters on Monday morning, Bill Belichick said he didn’t have anything more to offer when it came to Rob Gronkowski’s late hit in the waning moments of Sunday’s game against the Bills.


“I think Rob addressed it,” Belichick said. “I don’t have anything to add.”

Gronkowski was flagged for an unnecessary roughness call after a sideline shot on Buffalo defensive back Tre’Davious White that has reportedly left White with a concussion. Gronkowski apologized after the game, saying he’s “not in the business” of doing things like that, but expressed a level of frustration with the clutching and grabbing he endures on a regular basis.

“I felt like (White) kind of pushed me a little bit and made the play, and I just don’t understand why there wasn’t a flag,” he said. “It was a couple of times in the game, and they’re calling me for the craziest stuff ever. And it’s crazy … like, what am I supposed to do? And then, they don’t call that. It was just frustration, and that’s what happened.”

Belichick was asked if it was important to have some quick clarity around Gronkowski’s status — if he’s going to be suspended, it’s important to find out sooner rather than later so a game plan can be crafted for the next contest against the Dolphins in Miami. Belichick compared the situation to when a player is a game-time decision.

“Things that are out of our control are out of our control,” he said. “We’ll address the things that we can address.”
