The Patriots have a long history of paying some of their practice squad players more than the minimum salary, for various reasons. The Patriots continued this tradition recently by paying linebacker Trevor Reilly $15,000 a week, BostonSportsJournal.com has learned.

Background: The 2017 standard weekly pay for a practice squad player is $7,200. The 2017 standard weekly pay for an NFL rookie is $27,352.94.

Reilly was signed to the Patriots practice squad on Oct. 12. His cap number is $180,000 ($15,000 times 12 weeks).

The Patriots have 10 players on their practice squad. The following players are being paid more than the minimum:

  • CB Ryan Lewis: $27,352.94 (same weekly salary as a rookie)

  • NT Angelo Blackson: $15,000

  • Reilly: $15,000
