Bruins' Bergeron, Backes out for season opener vs. Predators

The Boston Bruins will begin the 2017-18 season without the services of Patrice Bergeron, David Backes and Torey Krug.

Bergeron remains listed as day-to-day with a lower-body injury. He was given a maintenance day Monday and did not practice. He was on the ice for a few minutes on Tuesday but exited practice early. He did not practice Wednesday and did not participate in the optional morning skate today.

Backes will be evaluated later today, said coach Bruce Cassidy, and there should be an announcement after the veteran forwards meets with the medical staff.



Krug (broken jaw) skated on his own prior this morning and then participated in the morning skate. He’ll have his three-week evaluation on Friday before a decision is made whether or not he’ll be cleared to return for Monday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche at TD Garden.

“Hopefully there will be good news there,” Cassidy said. "He might just miss one (game). We might catch a break and he's right back in there Monday. Again, I'm speculating but that would be the best-case-scenario."
