CANTON — On a day where we heard from most Celtics, there was one player that wasn't present for the team's media day: Hybrid forward Marcus Morris.
The former Piston remained back in Arizona where he is still on trial for aggravated assault charges looming from an incident over two years ago. Morris and his twin brother Markieff are accused of attacking a man (Erik Hood) with several other men outside a Phoenix recreation center back on Jan. 24, 2015. Day five of the trial continued on Monday in Arizona and the team remains in wait-and-see mode pending the result of the court proceedings.
"No plan Bs," Danny Ainge said at media day on Monday as the team awaits a judgment. "We'll just wait like everyone else to see what happens there, but we feel good about what will happen. At the same time we understand what possibilities exist, but we've been keeping close tabs on the trial."
The Celtics sent assistant general manager and team counsel Mike Zarren out to Arizona last week to keep tabs on the trial and the team has tried to remain supportive of the offseason acquisition throughout the process.
"I think his teammates, Brad and myself have all been in contact," Ainge explained. "So we’ve been in touch with Marcus continuously throughout the process."
Both Morris twins face the possibility of prison time (up to four years) and discipline (at least 10 games) from the league, if they are found guilty of the charges. Marcus Morris was expected to contend for a spot in the starting lineup in the frontcourt during training camp, but it remains to be seen if and when he'll be available to make a push for that position.
