Red Sox relievers buy time for another extra-inning win

BALTIMORE -- As the extra-inning wins pile up – make it 15 this season in 18 tries and three in the last five days alone – perhaps it’s time to give the Red Sox bullpen its proper credit.

After all, the Red Sox surely wouldn’t be so proficient in winning these games if they didn’t have a group of relievers capable of keeping the other team scoreless, buying time until the offense can break through.

On Tuesday night at Camden Yards, that breakthrough never came. The Red Sox had a measly six hits, and when the winning run finally scored in the 11th, giving the Sox a 1-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles, it came as a gift from the O’s pitching staff.
