The Czechs are coming. The Czechs are coming. The Czechs are coming.
Bruins winger David Pastrnak will be on the ice for the first time Saturday since signing a new six-year deal worth $40 million on Thursday. He arrived in Boston on Friday night and he’ll quickly be paired with fellow Czech native David Krejci.
Pastrnak spent the majority of last season with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand, but Bruce Cassidy prefers Pastrnak with Krejci. The two have played together in the past and Krejci is looking forward to being reunited.
“With David, we’ve had some good chemistry the last couple of years, but at the same time I’ve got to do my thing,” Krejci said. “I’ve got to be in the best shape I can be and play my best hockey and whoever is on my right and left side will do the same thing.
“We feed off each other. We think the game alike and we read off each other. Sometimes, even with blind passes, we know where each other goes. It’s real easy to play with him.”
It’s likely Krejci’s line for the preseason will be rookie Jake DeBrusk on the left side and Pastrnak on the right.
DeBrusk “can skate really well and he can shoot,” Krejci said. “He thinks the game really well and he can pass the puck. If it happens then we’ll start the season together and there shouldn’t be any problem why would have great chemistry.”
DeBrusk will be given every opportunity to earn that spot, but others will be fighting for it as well during training camp and the preseason. Either way, get used to seeing No. 46 and No. 88 on the ice together – a lot.
