Loyal BSJ subscribers/Patriots fans know this from our camp reports and Live Q&As in August: I wasn't a big fan of the team's training camp practices.
There wasn't much hitting at all, even in full pads. Some important players weren't out there for large portions of the practices, when you're supposed to be getting things in line for the season. And overall, I thought there was a lack of intensity until they got to West Virginia. That being said, I still wasn't sure how much to make out of it because this is the Patriots, and I said that at the time.
I also talked about it on Felger & Mazz on Aug. 22.
In hindsight, obviously I should have made a bigger deal out of it, especially after some of the comments we heard last night from the likes of Tom Brady and Devin McCourty.
But I'm not going there right now. Maybe camp wasn't the greatest ever, but I'm not going to go overboard about what happened last night. It wasn't good, especially on defense, but it was one bad game and Bill Belichick almost always gets this fixed. Let's see what happens.
