The Cavs will be introducing Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder and Ante Zizic to the media in Cleveland on Thursday morning at 12:30 p.m. (originally 11 a.m. but travel delay pushed it back) at a press conference with head coach Ty Lue and general manager Koby Altman.
We obviously have heard from Thomas already in past couple days, but these will be first in-person comments from all three former Celtics in a public setting. Additionally, we will likely hear more about the prolonged negotiations between Boston and Cleveland, Isaiah's hip status and what each player has to say about Boston after the deal.
You can watch the presser live online at Cavs.com, but we'll be holding a bit of a running diary here at BSJ to react to the Q-and-A throughout the morning. Stay tuned here for plenty of analysis about what went down.
1:07: Thomas on his goal for growth in Cleveland: “I want to be the greatest player to ever play, and that’s just how I am."
1:04: Altman confirms that the Cavs will be focusing on a non-surgical rehab plan for Thomas's hip in the next few months.
1:01: Telling moment from Jae Crowder about just how much tension there was between him and the organization this summer after the Celtics brought in Gordon Hayward, Jayson Tatum and Marcus Morris. Said the wing position was stacked and he let the team know about his concerns about their direction. Obviously, that may have been a factor in the deal from Boston's perspective.
12:58: Thomas reflects on his legacy in Boston, noting that he wanted to be remembered as a guy who left it all on the floor.
12:55: Isaiah says he, Crowder and Zizic add something the Cavs didn't have, toughness and grit. Thinks their competitiveness will translate over well.
12:53: First mention of Kyrie Irving in the press conference. Altman goes out of his way to thank him for his "exciting years with the Cavaliers." Altman doesn't want to get into the trade talks he held with other teams and the timing of the deal.
12:52: Thomas says he is going to use the question marks on his hip as added motivation.
12:50: Ty Lue on adding Isaiah Thomas to the mix. "I want him to be Isaiah. It's big for us."
12:45: Isaiah Thomas reflecting upon what he did with the Celtics, looks at Jae Crowder and says "We built that."
12:40: Cavs are refusing to address IT's hip at all. Altman says he doesn't want this to be the Isaiah Thomas hip press conference. Pretty hilarious after all they leaked last week on it. Not sure what they expected to happen.
12:32: Jae Crowder has reportedly arrived in Cleveland so this presser should be tipping off momentarily. No word yet on whether the Cavs will be demanding additional compensation from the Celtics in the trade for Crowder's late arrival.
