FOXBOROUGH — On Tuesday night, the Patriots announced their 2017 captains, a group that includes two first-timers in safety Duron Harmon and offensive lineman David Andrews.
In addition, Tom Brady, Devin McCourty, Matthew Slater, Rob Gronkowski and Dont’a Hightower were named captains. It’s old hat for Brady, who has been a captain since 2002, as well as MCCourty and Slater (who were both named captains in 2011). As for Hightower and Gronkowski, this will mark their second season as captains.
The inclusion of Harmon and Andrews is also notable is that while both are respected throughout the locker room, they also received contract extensions in the offseason.
