Belichick backing Cyrus Jones taken at BSJ Headquarters (Patriots)

Cyrus Jones has been one of the most polarizing players on the Patriots' roster the last year-plus, but less than 24 hours after a (mostly) positive performance against the Texans, Bill Belichick offered his support of the occasionally embattled returner and cornerback.

“I thought Cyrus did a good job in the return game, both punts and kickoffs,” Belichick said Sunday when he was asked about Jones’ performance in the second preseason game of the summer. “He ran hard, ran aggressively [and] made good decisions, with and without the ball.”

Jones had four punts returns for 58 yards, including one that went for 32 yards. (There was also a 17-yard kick return.) He fielded them all cleanly, and helped do his part when it came to tilting the field in New England’s favor.
