SEATTLE — And away we go. Let's do this! Excited to be here with you all.

This is how this will go. I'll put this file up on the day of games, and you guys can start the conversation in the comments (subscribers only, sorry). I'll try to pop in when I can to see what you're talking about, and answer some questions. Then I'll post lineups and some notes. Once the game starts, I'll have live coverage of the game in this space, and pop into the comments once in a while (maybe some of my BSJ teammates will join you and us).

Game No. 101

WHO: RED SOX (55-45) vs. SEATTLE MARINERS (49-51)

WHEN: 7:10 PST (10:10 EST).

WHERE: Safeco Field

PITCHERS: LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (4-2, 3.66 ERA) vs. LHP James Paxton (9-3, 3.05 ERA).

SEASON SERIES TO DATE: Red Sox, 2-1. The Sox took a weekend Fenway series with Seattle on Memorial Day at Fenway.

WHERE THE TEAMS STAND: The Red Sox lead the American League East by 2.5 games, but have gone just 5-6 since the All-Star break. The Mariners are hopelessly behind Houston in the A.L. West, but remain within shouting distance of the second wild-card spot.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR: This will be Rodriguez’s second start since coming off the DL with yet another knee issue. Rodriguez was hit around for three early runs over the first true innings against Toronto last week, but seemed to find his rhythm more as he went alone, going unscored upon over his final 3 1/3 innings. The Sox hope that, after his first start back, Rodriguez will pitch more like he did (4-1, 3.26) in his last eight starts before the DL trip.

STAT OF NOTE: The Sox lead the A.L. in ERA, something they haven’t done over a full season since 2007.
